RaceTech Suspension front end rebuild.

Set up and changes to handling, ride etc.

RaceTech Suspension front end rebuild.

Postby macfly » Wed Dec 02, 2009 2:56 am

I have sent my front fork over to JJ at RaceTech to be rebuilt using their Gold Line hydraulic valving, fork springs and preload washers while my bike is laid up waiting for the parts from the accident to arrive.

RaceTech are a world renowned suspension house, and when they tried the Megamoto before developing their kit for it they kick-named it the Jack Hammer. That made me laugh, because I have found it to be a pretty harsh and nervous ride, even the compression and rebound both backed all the way off.

I will give full details of the upgrade once I get the bike back.

The results of the front end rebuild, and the resetting of the ride height combine to transform the handling of the bike.

I had the 'full kit' with Racetech's springs and revalved cartridges dialed in to my ride weight.

The bike has gone from being a little skitterish and never feeling 100% stable mid corner on California's rough and bumpy mountain roads, to feeling like it is gliding on rails. The handling is now so sure footed and stable, and the front end dive under braking has been almost completely eliminated. It is now progressive, gentle, and doesn't upset the balance of the bike the way the stock set up did. The difference is so incredible that it defies belief, all I can say is if you haven't done this upgrade, it is an absolute must do for the Megamoto. This is how the bike should be.

Also Racetech have the very best customer service and care I have yet experienced in an aftermarket supplier, they really go above and beyond to make the customer happy, and do the job properly.

Should you have the need for the Racetech also have a spare set of HP2 Megamoto fork legs.

It is hard to illustrate the changes as they are all internal.

Having the rear shock height adjusted on the minimum, doesn't it creat problems with the side stand operation? And what about the foot peg clearence when cornering?

The bike is fine on the sidestand, and so far no problems with it grounding out, it is still a lot higher that a R1200R.

Here is a shot of the bike from both sides, as you see on the pipe side it covers a lot. My next project is to junk the stock guard in front of the white rear plastic seat surround, and add the Remus system, both of which I think will really lighten up the rear visually.
